Step 1 Turn off the chainsaw and unplug its spark plug. You can easily access the spark plug by taking out the carburettor box located at the rear side of your chainsaw. Doing this ensures that your chainsaw doesn’t accidentally turn on while you are taking the measurements.
Step 2 Align the tape measure tip with the chainsaw edge at the point where its bar emerges. Steady the chainsaw by laying it across a flat surface. This makes it easier to quickly extend the tape measure and take an accurate measurement.
Step 3 Pull your tape measure tightly so that it is properly aligned with the farthest tooth of your chainsaw’s nose. Note down the length and then round it up to its closest whole inch. In most instances, this figure will lie in the 12” to 20” range. If you’re not sure of the measurement, make it a point to repeat the exercise a few times. Keep in mind that this is the actual cutting length of your bar and not its entire length. You would need just to use this figure to replace your bar or chain.
Step 4 Remove the metal/plastic casing. You can do this by using the right socket or wrench. Once this casing has been removed, the covered section of the bar would be revealed and you can measure it. This would be the entire bar measurement.
Step 5 And finally, simply reattach the casing as well as the spark plug just as it was before.
